Building a Legacy: One Woman’s Journey Through Construction and Forestry Equipment.

We’re proud to celebrate the women who are driving change, breaking barriers, and leading with excellence. This Women’s Month, we turn the spotlight inward to honour one of our own: Mandie Ludeke, Branch Manager of Construction and Forestry Equipment in Tzaneen.

Eighteen years ago, a bold leap into the construction industry marked the beginning of a career defined by grit, growth, and groundbreaking transitions. Today, after nearly two decades in the field—and the last year and a half with AFGRI in the construction and forestry equipment sector—this seasoned professional reflects on a journey that’s been anything but ordinary.

From Foundations to Forestry: A Career Built on Possibility

“I believed that anything is possible,” she shares. That belief became the cornerstone of her career when the opportunity to contribute to the dynamic world of construction first presented itself. With both hands, she grabbed it—and never looked back.

Her path began on bustling construction sites, where she quickly proved her mettle. But the real turning point came when she transitioned into the equipment side of the industry. Supplying and maintaining construction and forestry machinery offered a new challenge—and a chance to deepen her expertise. “It was a natural progression,” she explains. “An opportunity to expand my knowledge and grow.”

Motivation in Motion

In an industry known for its intensity, staying motivated is no small feat. But for her, it’s simple: “Every day is different with its own challenges. There’s never a dull moment!” Passion fuels her drive, and a strong, supportive team keeps the momentum going. “We back each other all the way.”

Empowering Women in Construction

As a woman thriving in a traditionally male-dominated field, she’s become a beacon for others. Her advice to young women considering a career in construction? “Work hard and learn as much as you can—it will make you unstoppable. Be the woman who knows the grass is greener where she stands, because she brings value to every space she’s in.”

Mentorship is more than a responsibility—it’s a calling. “I’ve always made a point of supporting women in the industry and mentoring wherever I can. Empowering future generations to build their careers is an aspiration.”

Looking Ahead: Leadership and Legacy

Leadership is already part of her DNA, but she’s open to stepping into even greater roles. “It would be an honour,” she says. “And should it happen, I’ll give my best and succeed in every way possible.”

Balancing the demands of a physically intense profession with personal life requires intention. “It’s about managing time, setting boundaries, and prioritizing well-being. Wear the hat needed for the environment—and always remember the important people in your life.”

The Next Five Years

Her vision for the future is clear: “To be the best I can be. I want to make a huge success of my current responsibilities and build a lasting legacy before moving on to the next chapter.”
